June 2nd, 3rd and 4th

**I apologize first for the continued lack of photos. It seems my loading dock is not working so I will upload pictures as soon as I figure out how to fix it!**

On Saturday, June 2nd we began our day by finally being able to sleep in (since we didn't have class). At 11 we met to ride our bus to Vivo City (one of a gazillion malls in Singapore). At Vivo City we enjoyed a dimsum lunch with NUS students who have either gone to UNC previously or are planning to in the fall.

After lunch, we shopped around for a while and I found some new sandals and a blanket (our rooms only had a thin blanket that is basically a net). For dinner we went to the home of Kelsy's uncle (Kelsy is one of the students on the trip). He is a vice president for American Express and operates out of Singapore. His house was gorgeous!!! They were so hospitable. Not only did they cater a dinner for us, but they also gave us these sweet laptop bags. :)

Following dinner, Liz, Angelo, Jameil and I took a cab to Holland Park. There we hung out and I even ventured to try the infamous Tiger Beer. It wasn't too bad, but I'm not much for the bitter taste of beer. Afterwards, we headed back to PGP for the rest of the night.

On Sunday, June 3rd a group of us (Morgan, Liz, Haylie and I) traveled to Sentosa. Sentosa is one of 63 islands that make up the country of Singapore. Although Sentosa is quite touristy, it was still quite an experience. The island is like a tropical paradise. While there, we did partake in the educational sites by visiting Fort Siloso. Ft. Siloso was one of the forts the British had during the Japanese invasion. We took a tour and were able to experience first hand what it would have felt like to be stationed there. Following our tour of Ft. Siloso, we decided we couldn't visit this beautiful tropical island without testing out the beach. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my bathing suit, but my friends swam for a while. I sat on the beach and soaked up some rays while watching the sun set. (One of the most beautiful sites I have ever seen... pictures to come don't worry).

This morning (Monday, June 4th) began by attending classes from 9-12. In Dr. Quek's class we discussed economic growth and its role in the nation-building process for Singapore. In Howie and Trude's class, we discussed a reading on globalization.

After lunch we watched a feature film for Dr. Quek's class called, "Singapore Dreaming." It was interesting and taught me a lot about the Singapore society. After the movies Jessica, Amanda, Priya and I went to Vivo mart to buy a few groceries and necessities for the room. For dinner I tried prata with Ash. It was AMAZING! It was kind of like the French crepe, but with an Asian twist.

Well I am off to finish some reading...

Lots of Love,

Sarah
