Welcome to Singapore!

Its hard to believe I am actually on the other side of the world! Although I have seen many fascinating things in the past 3 days I am still having a little trouble adapting to the 12 hour time difference. But as each day is a new adventure, I am sure my excitement will help keep me awake!

Today began by visiting a Buddhist Monastery by the name of Kong Meng San Phor Kark See in honor of the Buddhist holiday of Vesak Day. It was one of the most gorgeous places I have visited in my life. The complex housed more than 7 separate buildings. Each building had a new and exciting purpose. My favorite was the Hall of Great Compassion. It housed many worshippers meditating and paying respects to a rather elaborating decorated Buddha statue.

Other notable points included the beautiful architecture...

and the gorgeous statues...

But the highlight of the day by far was talking with a Buddhist monk. He was quite insightful and taught us so much about Buddhism and its role in the modern world.

In the afternoon we visited Chinatown and did a bit of shopping. The deals were amazing but we were quite tired and didn't do too much shopping this visit. About 7 o'clock we ventured back to NUS on our own (don't worry we were supposed to, it was a test). After 1 1/2 bus and MRT ride we FINALLY made it back to PGP! What a day...

Lots of Love,
Sarah
